A thirteen-year-old girl, Varyka, lives in a shoemaker's house, where she performs babysitting and household chores. Slave labour and lack of sleep exhaust the girl. Her only wish is to sleep. But Varyka is not allowed to sleep. The baby's crying becomes the girl's main nightmare. One day she finds a solution to her problem.
